Deborah Lazar Photos, 9/5/10

Our many thanks to Deborah Lazar for taking these wonderful photos at the grand opening of our market!  You can check out her wonderful paintings at http://www.deborahlazar.com/, and if you stop by the market tomorrow you’ll probably find her there, tending her community garden plot and chatting with the other shoppers.

Our very special thanks to Doug Frank for taking these photos at the market’s Grand Opening on 9/5/10!  Doug is a Putney resident and is always at the ready with his equipment to record whatever we ask him to do.  You can check out his site, Milagro Webphoto, to view more of his work.

Tomorrow, work by another Putney photographer, Deborah Lazar!

Second Market, Sunday, 9/12/10

What amazing talent we have here in our community!  This Sunday’s market brought together an eclectic mix of fiber artists, herbalists, cheesemakers, as well as a new Mexican tamale vendor.  Putney has been blessed by these folks all along, and it’s so fabulous that they now have a reason to get together every Sunday.

There will be more photos posted this week, so stay tuned!  And look forward to our new “Vendor Spotlight” posts, starting next week!

Thanks for checking out our blog, and tell your friends!

Welcome to the Market!

It’s hard to imagine that a town like Putney has made it so long without a farmers’ market.  Although our area is gifted by rich soils and willing growers, the folks who farm around here have been traveling outside Putney to sell their goods, and to all of us living here, that has been a real shame.  That is, until this past Sunday.

Transition Town Putney, a local organization concerned with the food security and post-oil viability of our region, has galvanized the population once again, and created a fabulous market for Putney in only five weeks’ time.  Bringing together a steering committee of willing and experienced locals, the group drew upon the resources of NOFA-VT and Post Oil Solutions to start a 6-week harvest season market.  The grand opening on Labor Day weekend was a thrilling success, with tourists and locals mixing in happy, abundant crowds.

Although this site is only in its beginning stages, in the future it will be a place for you to check and see who’s selling at market, week by week, as well as what musicians, performances and special events you can look forward to at the market.  This fall, we will culminate our first season with a celebration on 10-10-10, the 350.org global work party day.  So stay tuned for more announcements on that.

Market policies and applications are available in the menu bar at the top.  Please read the policies before submitting an application, to make sure you really are interested!

Enjoy these few black and white shots from our grand opening, and we’ll see you this Sunday from 11-2, at the Community Gardens in Putney!
